Prince Street News: Neal Adams 1941-2022

 The new BACK ISSUE (#143) is a special issue paying tribute to comic book artist Neal Adams, who passed in 2022 from complications due to sepsis. To say Adams played an important in my life is putting it mildly. He was my first favorite artist, he fought to get Warner Communications to give credit and compensation to Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, he battled for creators' rights, and just made comics a much better medium. Here's my tribute (one of many).... 

Prince Street News: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

 The new BACK ISSUE! (#123) focuses on the oft-turbulent love lives of superheroes. Traditionally, when one's entire life is built around hiding your true identity and racing off to help strangers both on and off world, a "normal" life is tough to maintain. The soap-operaesque nature of relationships among heroes and their partners (some civilian, some not) has been ripe fodder for stories since Lois Lane first rebuffed Clark Kent. 

This installment of Prince Street News is a mix of fanboy and layperson jokes. Some of this stuff is really weird... f'rinstance, teenaged Green Lantern Arisia had a big crush on Hal Jordan, so she used her power ring to skip some years and make herself age-appropriate for Earth's GL.... ew! When Kent Nelson donned the helmet of Dr. Fate, he became basically a different entity, with little or no connection to his wife, Inza. Abby Arcane had sex with a vegetable. You know... superhero romance! 

Next up: What if some monstrous heroes wore traditional superhero costumes?

R. Crumb's The Avengers

Part of a Prince Street News installment, "Alternate Alternate Realities," this faux-cover ponders the impossible outcome of legendary underground comix artist Robert Crumb working for Marvel in the 1960s. I had to keep it relatively clean for the magazine. Heh.

Marvey Comics' THE AVENGERS in HERO LAND!

Based on the cover of THE AVENGERS #58 by John Buscema, this piece (part of a PRINCE STREET NEWS montage strip of Alternate Alternate Realities) posits a Marvel / Harvey Comics mashup in which Richie Rich (as Super Richie), Wendy the Good Little Witch, Hot Stuff the Little Devil, Stumbo the Giant, Jackie Jokers, and Sooper Hippie meet Casper the Friendly Ghost. I was gonna call this "Harvengers," but nah.
