Prince Street News: New Teen Titans Auditions

The New BACK ISSUE! (#122) celebrates the 40th anniversary of DC Comics' breakout 1980s reboot of their primary sidekick supergroup, The New Teen Titans (the comic book that gave the world Cyborg). For this issue's Prince Street News, I imagined what the recruitment might've been like for that new iteration of the team. Most of these gags are fanboy-only, so don't feel bad if you don't get them (that's Roaring '20s comic strip character Harold Teen in panel 5 on page 2, but the rest you'll have to figure out yourself).

BONUS! Originally, I scripted the punchline to include Bumblebee as one of the sillier alumni of the previous Teen Titans, but I realized she's actually not a goofy character, so I replaced her with the defrosted teenage caveman, Gnarrk. Much funnier. The original penciled panel is shown after the finished strip.

Next issue! Superhero Romance! It's often times a goopy mess!!
